As in the Super Bowl, it’s hard not to root for the underdog, even if it’s not your team. The same can be said of my relationship to Kia. Maybe it’s because of the cute little name, or it origins as a bike maker, but I find myself rooting for this unassuming and often underperforming brand. Kia was outspent by most every other car brand during the Super Bowl, but its creative broke through. With a touch of “Old Spice” machismo, Kia took the tried and true elements of humor, sex, and production value, to create a gem of an ad. Hyundai…well…I think they might want to keep Abilene out of their headlights.
